A Room with A View
Our client secured a large suite in a much sought-after building. It was dark, dated and dismal. We removed a diagonal wall that had defined a den area (but blocked the view), opened the kitchen, and flipped the location of the dining room and den. This created a better flow between the spaces, put dinner party guests next to windows and provided panoramic treetop views to the south and west. The hall to the bedrooms was widened to further the feeling of spaciousness and to provide better accessibility. Eliminating a jetted tub allowed for a huge glass-screened shower with no door and no shower curb. “Designer grab bars” look pretty, not institutional, while still offering security and safety. Faceted glass tiles in silver are elegant and timeless. The floor tiles are large format and slip resistant; they continue uninterrupted into the shower. In the guest bath, a tiny shower enclosure was replaced with an open shower area defined by a glass screen and minimal threshold. An Ebony Macassar vanity with Swarovski pulls was designed for a glamorous touch. Wide plank matte-finish grey-tone oak hardwood flooring unites most of the space, with heated porcelain tile in the sunroom, guest bath, laundry room and en suite. The large entertaining space is light and bright and the dining area is defined by cove lighting and a modern linear pendant. The living area is warmed by a horizontal fireplace and wired for a TV above. But our client has decided to watch TV in the cozy den with built-in desk, storage and display shelves. The guest bedroom is cozy and the sofa in the den transforms into a bed. This condo has already hosted many overnight family visits, tea, cocktail and dinner parties.
